I read that black pepper can help to reduce blood sugar in type 2 diabetes mellitus. How true is this and if so, how does it work?
Black pepper In case of diabetes type 2, I wont say black pepper “cures” the disease, it rather just helps prevent it in the first place and then later helps combat against diabetes related complications.
As for how it works, black pepper inhibits key enzymes linked to the disorder and reduces fluctuations in blood sugar level. It is known to as well as known as a key antioxidant which helps diabetics overcome their condition.
Moreover, Black pepper forms, including black pepper essential oil or black peppercorns, have been observed to show impressive antibacterial effects; yet another way in which this wonderful seasoning promotes the health of the digestive tract. These potentials of black pepper help stabilize blood sugar levels, regulate hyperglycemia and reduce free radical damage.
Recent research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America studied piperine’s effect on obesity and diabetes. What the researchers found was that piperine helps the up-regulation of the metabolic rate of resting muscle, which in turn can mitigate obesity and diabetes, making it effective in combating both the diseases.
Just to add to this, one of my favorites from wonders that black pepper does is that a combo of turmeric-black pepper can be used to make tea brewed with almond or coconut milk and other warming spices like cinnamon. This tea helps diabetics regulate glucose and control blood pressure.
What is reverse diabetes?
The question refers to type 2 diabetes, since you cannot reverse type 1. So Type 2 diabetes usually has a gradual build up in your body until your blood sugar is high enough to start causing some damage to your other organs. We consider prediabetes as a kind of warning phase in the development of type 2 diabetes because your blood sugar level is elevated from normal, but not high enough to be considered as type 2 diabetes.
The blood sugar level is the key to understanding your question. Because your blood sugar level has increased to a dangerous point, you are diabetic. So reverse diabetes refers to reversing the blood sugar level to a safe point. You typically cannot get reverse diabetes, unless someone is using that term to indicate hypoglycemia, meaning your blood sugar is too low.
