My family has always had a history of diabetes, going as far back as I can remember. So even though I'd never been diagnosed with it, it was always a constant worry for me. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a serious problem. I went through a rough patch in my life. My mom passed away, and it really hit me hard. I sank into depression for a while, and it ended up seriously affecting my lifestyle. I stopped working out, and began to use food as a coping mechanism. My weight increased rapidly, and before I knew it my doctor was telling me that I was pre-diabetic. I realized that if I didn't do something quickly, I'd end up in a really bad place. My first steps to pulling myself out of the hole I'd ended up in were to radically change my diet and exercise routine.
