So, 3 and 1/2 years ago, Iād get up and test my blood sugar and inject a minimum of 60 units of Lantus. If it was particularly high, Iād inject a bit more Lantus to start the day. I carried around a Novolog pen. If I was eating a pretty starchy or high carb meal, Iād inject 15 to 20 units to help control the blood sugar spike. My A1C was in the 9ās (over 190) even with all this treatment. I was taking 3 blood pressure medicines to keep my blood pressure under control. I wasnāt particularly obese and was still within the ānormalā range for BMI. I wasnāt uncomfortable with my weight, but I was damn sure uncomfortable with those blood sugars.
