Is brown rice bad for a person with diabetes?

Is brown rice bad for a person with diabetes? Brown rice is bad for someone who is suffering from type 2 diabetes. This is because brown rice is 90% carbohydrate, and well under 10% of this is fiber. A cup of brown rice has 45 grams of carbohydrates, which equates to 9 teaspoons of sugar. Normal blood sugar is generally considered to be a fasting blood sugar under 100 mg/dL, or 70-140 mg/dL 2 hours after a meal. This is equivalent to about 1 teaspoon of sugar circulating in your blood. When you eat a food that has a lot of carbs in it, like a cup of brown rice, your blood sugar will climb rapidly because the carbs in the rice are rapidly converted to sugar, and the 9 teaspoons of sugar in a cup of brown rice are going to be absorbed into a system that tries to stay at about 1 teaspoon of sugar at all times. Eating a cup of brown rice will cause your blood sugar to rise significantly and will lead to difficult-to-control blood sugars in the short term and progression of the dise...

Which are the best nuts for diabetics?

Which are the best nuts for diabetics? Reducing type 2 diabetes risk by almost a quarter is as easy as eating only 8 ounces of these easy-to-find nuts, according to a large new study published in the Journal of Nutrition. What’s more, the researchers found that people who made it a point to include these healthful gems in their diets were – for some strange reason – also more likely to improve other diet and exercise habits as well. In a recently published study in the Journal of Nutrition, researchers found that compared to participants who ate no nuts, those who ate just 8 ounces of walnuts per month were 24% less likely to develop type 2 diabetes, even after controlling for other health factors. Walnuts are extremely rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which is not only an essential nutrient for optimum health, but also is found to be sorely deficient in Western diets- despite the readily available nature of the nut. Researchers looking at blood pressure and cardiovascular health a...

Can type 2 diabetes be cured completely with a low carb diet?

Can type 2 diabetes be cured completely with a low carb diet? By John Winget, Medical Researcher at Abudo | www.quora.com Type 2 diabetes is evidenced by the immunity to the purpose of insulin and at the end insulin insufficiency. Glucose levels are influenced by several factors such as stress, activity and by the type and volume of these carbohydrates we have. The question we are addressing is when a very low carbohydrate diet is the best method to optimally manage glucose levels. What's a low carbohydrate diet? The term"low carbohydrate diet" is debatable because of the controversy in the scientific community on the sum of carbohydrate allowed in the diet. A low carbohydrate diet ranges between 30 and 30g of carbohydrate per day, consisting of largely"complex" carbs such as naturally occurring whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. The other problem with a low carbohydrate diet plan is that one size doesn't fit all. A woman weighing 50kg who a...

What kind of food reduces the diabetes level?

1. Apples In a Finnish study, men who ate the most apples and other foods high in quercetin had 20 percent less diabetes and heart disease deaths. Other good sources of quercetin are onions, tomatoes, leafy green vegetables, and berries. 2. Source: In 3 Weeks, 71% Type 2 Diabetics Were Taken off Medication 3. After 40 days of taking various amount of cinnamon extract, diabetics experienced not only lower blood sugar spikes after eating, but major improvements in signs of heart health. And you can sprinkle cinnamon on just about anything. 4. Cold-Water Fish Heart disease strikes people with diabetes twice as often as it does people without the illness, according to the American Diabetes Association. Diets high in omega-3 fatty acidsthe “good fat” in cold-water fish such as wild Alaskan salmon, sardines, and Atlantic mackerel can help lower artery-clogging LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while raising levels of HDL (good) cholesterol. 5. Fiber-Rich Foods A study at the Un...

How Many US Adults Have Diabetes as of Today?

By Sysy Morales September 28th, 2018 | DiabetesDaily.com HealthDay News has reported on a September 19th CDC National Center for Health Statistics data brief indicating that 1 in 7 Americans now has diabetes. The CDC states that 14% of adults in the U.S. have diabetes, and of that 14%, 4% are undiagnosed. Mark Eberhardt, an epidemiologist at the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics told HealthDay, “Diabetes remains a chronic health problem in this country, affecting some 30 million people,” which he added is related to an aging population and the ongoing obesity epidemic in the U.S. Eberhardt stressed widespread testing for diabetes because according to the data, so many people don’t know they have it. Who Has Diabetes? Recent figures say that type 2 diabetes accounts for 91% of diabetes cases and tends to be associated with excess weight. Those who are overweight or obese are more often diagnosed with diabetes. The research report shows that 21% of obese adults...

What can be done to bring about a reversal of diabetes?

What can be done to bring about a reversal of diabetes? Type 1 and 1.5 (LADA) are auto immune diseases which destroy the insulin producing beta cells of the pancreas. There is no reversing this. A new study suggest that using a certain TB vaccine might restore these cells. Type 2 Diabetes is metabolic. It is not caused by being obese. Obesity is a symptom of the metabolic disfunction that is occurring. If obesity was the cause then I imagine every obese person would be a type 2 diabetic but they are not. And there are T2D who were and are not obese. That is a wrong headed simplistic thinking. It is possible for some T2D to bring the disease into remission. That is not a cure. A cure would entail changing the underlying process that causes the syndrome of things. Many T2D before they become obese experience episodes of hypoglycemia. But low blood glucose is the opposite of diabetes right? In a sense it is, however it is a sign that the person does not metabolize glucose correctly....

Why are carbohydrates the cause of diabetes?

Why are carbohydrates the cause of diabetes? Diabetics are carbohydrate intolerant. Carbs cause the biggest spike in blood sugar and people who develop diabetes (2) have little to no control over their insulin sensitivity in the face of carbs. In Has carbohydrate-restriction been forgotten as a treatment for diabetes mellitus? Westman and Vernon explain that before the invention of insulin, metformin and all the other anti-diabetes drugs, carbohydrate restriction was the treatment of choice for diabetics. “The dietary recommendation for diabetes in a prominent internal medicine textbook from 1923 was 75% fat, 17% protein, 6% alcohol and only 2% carbohydrate. The recommended total daily energy intake was 1,795 Calories per day. After the discovery of insulin and oral hypoglycemic medications, experts gradually changed the dietary recommendations to include more carbohydrate intake because most experts reasoned that the medications could be used to keep the glucose in control.” T...

Why do diabetics need their legs amputated?

Why do diabetics need their legs amputated? Are there any alternative methods that can prevent amputation? Diabetic people who require amputation(s) have such poor blood circulation in their extremities that their limbs are slowly dying and can become sources of generalized blood infections, which are deadly. The high blood glucose of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus is very damaging to arteries throughout the body. Our bodies need a certain range of blood glucose to function well; one of the many things that happen when blood glucose is consistently too high is arterial damage. When our arteries don’t work well, not only does that body part not get enough oxygenated nutrient-rich blood, it also can’t effectively move the deoxygenated, waste-rich blood out. The whole blood circuit is compromised and the tissues in that area become damaged. Diabetic people can have very poor circulation to their extremities. They may get sores very easily, which don’t heal quickly or well because ...

How to Become More Insulin Sensitive

Insulin resistance can carry significant health risks, as it is associated with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular problems, among others. Taking steps to improve insulin sensitivity, especially for overweight individuals and those with diabetes can be an important step in improving overall health. Here are some key factors that may help to improve insulin sensitivity: Caloric Restriction Eating fewer calories is a well-established way to improve insulin sensitivity. “Calorie restriction reduces fat mass, delays the development of age-associated diseases such as type 2 diabetes, and increases lifespan in rodents. In obese humans, it is well established that calorie restriction, weight loss, and exercise improve insulin sensitivity,” researchers summarize. Research shows that after six months of a 25% caloric reduction, overweight patients were more likely to lose weight, fat mass, and fat cell size. In addition, the intervention group significantly reduced their fasti...

What causes diabetes?

Type 1 and type 2 diabetes are two different diseases. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that prevents the pancreas from producing adequate amounts of insulin to maintain normal blood sugar levels. This form of diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults. The exact cause is unknown but genetics and environmental factors may play a role in this disease. Like type 1 diabetes, the exact cause of type 2 diabetes is hard to pinpoint, but it is likely that genetics and lifestyle play a role in the development of insulin resistance which ultimately can lead to type 2 diabetes when left untreated. When someone has insulin resistance their body’s cells struggle to respond to the effects of a “normal” amount of insulin. The job of insulin is to reduce glucose, so when the body doesn’t respond to insulin, it eventually causes high blood sugar. However, first, the pancreas tries to fix the high blood sugar by producing even more insulin. Prolonged increases in insulin c...

How do you cure type 2 diabetes naturally with diet?

Firstly this is what is a normal insulin reaction looks like: Insulin is manufactured in the pancreas and secreted when your blood sugar levels rise. Blood sugar needs to be not too high and not too low. Insulins mechanism to remove sugar from blood is to put it into cells, like your muscles. There is a lot of cliched advice out there that doesn’t really work but if you want to make real progress, try this: REVERSE DIABETES TODAY While certain lifestyle changes are key to managing diabetes, whether you can actually turn back time so that it’s like you never had diabetes is a different matter. That depends on how long you’ve had the condition, how severe it is, and your genes. One of the most important considerations in managing type 2 diabetes is making appropriate diet choices, anything that you eat needs to be considered in terms of blood sugar impact. Nutrition therapy is key, as it is food that causes blood sugar spikes and greatly influences blood glucose levels. It is pos...

Doing THIS will help you increase insulin sensitivity, reverse diabetes & burn fat

So...the one thing I always implore my diabetic clients to do, is to get moving and do a certain type of workout. Why? Because if you're suffering from type 2 diabetes, it means that your body is resistant to insulin (Majorly!) If you did some effective (and simple, quick workouts using a proven plan specifically for diabetes reversal), your body will burn away the excess glycogen/glucose/sugar from the body... This would then increase your body's senstivity to insulin (and you will need less insulin to store away all the excess sugar in your blood). That means that your blood sugar levels will be dramatically lowered after a workout, and your chances of reversing diabetes improves immediately - and stays that way... As a bonus, because insulin works better in your body, your pancreas would produce less insulin, which is awesome! Does that sound good to you? If so, you need to check out this proven workout plan (great for diabetes sufferers): Try the blood sugar...

Yogurt & Diabetes

Article by Mike Geary Dairy is a confusing topic for many people, and so many "gurus" out there make things even more confusing with contradicting advice for the average person simply trying to eat healthy and improve their health.  But in this email, I want to briefly talk about yogurt and the effect on your blood sugar and a few studies in relation to type 2 diabetes as well... In a report published in 2014, by Frank Hu, a Harvard researcher, included about 459,000 participants in 3 studies, and showed that yogurt intake was associated with a 17% reduction in type 2 diabetes risk. However, it's important to note that the type of yogurt must NOT be sugar-sweetened or artificially sweetened yogurt... It's vitally important to eat PLAIN, FULL-FAT yogurt (grass-fed preferably) for the most benefits. Sweetened yogurts will do more harm than good, but a good plain full-fat yogurt has relatively low amounts of natural sugars, while also containing high quality prot...

What are the advancements in the treatments of diabetes?

Here are the advancements in the treatments of diabetes: 1. Brand new beta cells. Type 1 diabetes develops when a person's immune system wipes out insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. But it turns out that another type of immature beta cell has been hiding in our pancreases all along, and scientists think it might be possible to use these 'virgin beta cells' to restore the functionality of the pancreas. 2. A preventative vaccine. Finnish researchers are about to embark on the first-ever clinical trial for a type 1 diabetes prevention vaccine. While it's not a cure for those who already have the condition, a successful vaccine could potentially prevent thousands of cases each year, as the vaccine targets a virus linked with the development of an autoimmune reaction in the pancreas. 3. A unique transplant. One woman with severe type 1 diabetes has spent a year without insulin injections thanks to an experimental transplant. Doctors implanted insulin...

Diabetes: Look after your teeth to look after your blood glucose

Researchers say that people with type 2 diabetes may improve their blood glucose levels by looking after their teeth. A new study highlights the importance of oral hygiene for people with type 2 diabetes, after finding that those with the condition may have better blood glucose levels if they look after their teeth. It is estimated that around 30.3 million people in the United States are living with diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is the most common form, and it accounts for 90–95 percent of all cases. Type 2 diabetes develops when the body's cells stop responding to the hormone insulin. This is a process known as insulin resistance. Blood glucose levels become too high as a result. Without effective management of blood glucose levels, a number of serious complications may arise, including nerve damage, or neuropathy, eye problems such as glaucoma and cataracts, and skin conditions. Previous research has also shown that there is a two-way link between type 2 diabetes and g...

How can our diet have such a big impact on Diabetes & overall health

I’ll explain with a metaphor. Picture your body as a car, that was designed to function on all-natural, organic, fuel. The car is a living, breathing machine not unlike the human body. For 2 million years, this car has been using fuel such as: water seeds nuts grasses grains herbs roots fruits vegetables. THAT'S the fuel it is used to. MOREOVER, THAT'S the fuel its entire system is based upon. It was MADE from that stuff. Then, suddenly, after 2,000,000 years… that car switches over to  –  for the last 100 years  –  a new, modern mixture of: sugar sweets biscuits crisps chocolate coffee coca-cola fats & oils cigarettes alcohol vinegar pharmaceutical drugs chemicals pesticides and preservatives (loads of them) / etc. What do you think would happen to this 'vehicle'? THAT'S RIGHT – IT BREAKS DOWN. If you keep pouring in fuels that your body can't process properly… then eventually your “motor” starts experiencing s...

What were your first symptoms of type 2 diabetes?

Article by George Hawkins,  Reading Recovery, Co-team Leader Year One and Languages Teacher (2012-present) I was not overweight, early 40s, and I ate a healthy diet. I had no symptoms that I noticed. In retrospect, I was often sleepy in the afternoon - scarily, when driving, but put it down to tiredness. One afternoon, my vision suddenly started to shake. The shaking went on for a few seconds. I had headaches and lethargy. So I went to my GP, who ordered a blood test. I was extremely surprised to find I had diabetes type 2 - despite the fact it was in my family. I was put on metformin, I think, 2 pills a day, but it did not make much difference. Eventually the amount was raised to 4 pills a day. As I read and learned more about the condition, I was making changes to my diet and cutting down carbs, increasing protein as best I could. My blood sugars came down and the amount of metformin was reduced. Now, a couple of years after diagnosis, my latest blood tests show sugar l...
