Today we will learn how to bring dead sealed lead acid battery to live again. This method was tested on alot of dead and expired batteries and 90% of them back to work again.
P.S : this method may be not bring the battery to full performance of the original condition but at my rate the battery will work for 50%~70% of it.
You will need :
- 3cm syringe
- voltmeter or multimeter
- battery charger or power supply
- crocodile cords "used with PSU "
- Distilled water
For Safety : use goggles and chemical gloves don't touch the water came out the battery it's acid
Step 1: Preparing the Battery
Peel off the top cover using a little flat screw driver like what you see in the picture. Be gentle because you will need to put back the cover after you are done.
After the cover is removed, you will see 3 holes covered by rubber caps, gently take the caps off and put it aside. These caps will need to be put back on after you are done.
Now grab a multimeter to measure the vpltage of this battery. In my case, the voltage is 0.76 volts only. that's mean the battery is completely dry on the inside.
Step 2: Fill in with distilled water
Use a syringe to fill up the hole with distilled water, let it overflow. Filling in water will activate the acid again. Measure the voltage again. You should now notice some voltage in milivolts which is a good sign. Even if you don't, no need to worry.
Step 3: Mix Water With Acid and Charging
With distilled water still in there, leave the battery charging using a DC charger, of course. You can use any 12V charger with output anything around 10Amps. During charging process, you should notice some air bubble forming up coming out of the holes.
What if you don't see any bubbles? Connect the lead probes the other way around: Positive to negative & negative to positive for about 1 minutes - 2 minutes (no more than 3 minutes).
Now you must see bubbles come out from holes like it is boiling. Turn the power immediately and reconnect the leads normally - positive to positive terminal, and negative to negative terminal.
Leave the cap opened and let the battery charging overnight. Wipe dry any overflowing water at the top. Congratutalion! You just make your old battery work again like a new one
