3 days ago, I introduced you to Liz Swann Miller, the naturopath and weight loss specialist whose Red Smoothie Detox Factor destroys food industry “wisdom” about how to lose weight.
She’s exploded the myth that deprivation and dieting are the way to lose weight.
Now she’s going to reveal one of the basic secrets all “naturally skinny” people have in common.
“Secret” #2: Eat at home.
Yes, it’s better to eat real food. But even if you eat processed food, eat at home, Liz says.
You will naturally eat less…without noticing or feeling deprived.
And you’ll slam the brakes on additional weight gain.
That’s because, Liz told me in a Skype chat, “No matter what you eat, whether you are alone or with family or friends, restaurants make money by selling you food. The more you eat, the more money they make. No matter how expensive or how cheap the restaurant.”
“Even good restaurants?” I asked.
“Even great restaurants serving terrific food made with wholesome ingredients,” she said. “But let’s be real. When most of us go to a restaurant, it’s a fast food or chain restaurant. So they get us to spend more by giving us more. Made with ingredients aren’t very nourishing but… are dirt-cheap. And some of those ingredients aren’t’ just toxic, they’re actually designed to make us eat more. A lot more.”
“So… the more they can make us eat, the more money they make.”
“Absolutely. And they know it. All of my patients eat dramatically less—without noticing—if they just eat out less. They do notice feeling better—and that the scale stops creeping up.”
“I gotta move the scale back down. But it seems like every detox program I’ve fun into is crazy expensive and incredibly inconvenient. And full of stuff that may be healthy but—I gotta say it, doesn’t taste so great.”
“I hear that a lot from my patients. And you know what? I’m human, I’ve got a family—and a budget—and we all love good food. So I created a program where everything has meets that ‘real life test.’”
“OK. I’m game!”
“Would you do me a favor, first?” Liz asked. “I think it will really help you.”
“Sure…” I said, wondering what it could be.
“Pay attention to what you’re eating. Then how you feel. Just for a day or two. Would you do this?”
“Well, sure, but it won’t make that much difference, will it?”
“Most people are amazed. You might be, too.”
I felt silly saying, “Well, sure.”
Because I didn’t think for a second that what I ate really affected me. How I thought, what I felt.
Hoo boy.
I paid attention to what I ate. And how I felt. I was surprised at how much I ate. A lot of it came out of a package. Or a restaurant. Usually a fast-food place.
And even though I was eating from morning to late at night, all day long, I was peaks and valleys of energy. Rush and crash. Eat to pick myself up, then crash and eat again. Always hungry. With the attention span of… a flea? And I tossed and turned and thrashed all night long… then dragged myself out of bed in the morning.
That was my life, and I’d never realized it.
I emailed Liz. “Help! Is this normal? It can’t be natural!”
“It’s not natural but, yes, that’s pretty normal for most people.”
“Can you help me?”
“Absolutely. I’ll send you a recipe that my clients just love. So enjoy it all day long, along with some snacks I’ll tell you about too.”
I looked at the recipe.
Berries. Beets. Kale. The berries sounded good and I didn’t have anything against the beets or the kale. Plus some ingredients that seemed…downright decadent.
Decadent health food?
I made it, I tried it and thought…
Decadent: check.
Healthy…? Well, everything in it is supposed to be really healthy, but…
How the heck can anything decadent be healthy?
Easily.
Because I’ve been enjoying—yes, that’s right, enjoying tasty recipes from the Red Smoothie Detox Factor for several days now. They’re all different, they all taste great—and I honestly can’t remember the last time I slept so well and felt so good.
I’ve gone from being hangry—that’s hungry+ angry—all.the.time to never. I have more energy, I concentrate better, my [insert your specifics] tells me I’m a lot easier to get along with, and I’ve had to take in my belt!
