HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I just came back from our family trip to Colorado (photos below) and I'm ready for a FRESH start.
It's not always easy, but this is the perfect time to set great goals for ourselves.
For many people, eating healthier, exercising more, and losing weight are at the top of their New Year’s resolutions checklists.
I want to know yours. What's at the top of your list this year? What are you changing? How are you going to transform yourself? What's important to you right now?..
Just reply to this email and let me know.
I'll share mine...
It's a little embarrassing but truth be told... I recently found out that my cortisol levels were through the roof. In other words, I'm overstressed to highly dangerous levels.
I kind of knew that, to be honest. I got my hair tested once (that's how you can tell cortisol levels!) in graduate school. The professor who was leading the test took me aside to share the results. She was grave and seemed really concerned. She said she had never seen such high levels and that it was really dangerous for my overall health.
Here is, she said, what can happen if I didn't take care of it: weight gain, low sex drive, fatigue, muscle loss, bone loss, sleep problems, depression, mood swings... and much worse...
This seemed very unpleasant. But at the time I dismissed it. I was in denial...
... Plus, what was I supposed to do?.. Quit my PhD when I was so close to completion?.. Stop working and let thousands of women down?.. Send my kids back wherever they came from?.. 😂
Like most women do all the time, I just put my issues under the rug, kept on working, kept taking care of others, and disregarded my own health. Until now.
Over the Christmas break, I had a serious discussion with my husband. We talked about all the symptoms mentioned above, and how my life (as well as my husband's and all of my children) was deeply affected.
It was time to do something about it. It was time for change. Real change. And the new year is the perfect timing to do just that.
So to my family, and to you, I pledge to manage my stress more effectively by remembering to meditate more regularly, take a moment to pause and appreciate everyone and everything in my life. I have made an appointment with our family therapist, to give me direction and help as I try to manage my personal life better.
I'm going to cut back on work. I currently manage a weight loss clinic in Florida, help thousands of women slim down via the internet. I still go to school to finalize my doctorate. And of course I am busy with all of my children and my husband.
I have set (reset!) my priorities and now is the time to make things happen for good. Are you with me?..
What is YOUR New Years’ resolution? I want to hear it! Please hit reply and share (as I did) what you hope to accomplish and how you plan on doing it.
Have a blessed New Year and I look forward to hearing from you!
